The group's work aims toward improving our ability to predict on seasonal to interannual timescales and beyond, including: - developing our understanding of tropical variability in the coupled atmosphere-ocean system and its complex interaction in a changing climate,
- investigating the response of the global circulation to tropical heating anomalies (how the remote ocean response may affect teleconnections; how these teleconnections depend on the basic state),
- investigating the variability of the Asian Summer Monsoon across all timescales, and identifying factors that influence its predictability.
Links with the users of seasonal forecasts (e.g. agriculture, water resources) provided by our work with the Walker Institute for Climate System Research and its Crops and Climate group provide us with a useful frame for our research. |
